Also involved in this Felix Bowl were apparently Brandon Goodman, Charlie Smugar, Zach Jacobs, Justinas, John Miller (running late), Kenny Minor, Matt Sidell, Francis Ferruzzi (came late), I assume Mark Pyfer, Ian Leopold was stuck in traffic and didn't make until after we got kicked off the field (he was drafted #1 overall), Kyle Guingo was there I remember, Tom Lorenzi was late and maybe there were a couple more people seeing as we filled 5 teams ... there was a lot going on
What I Wrote in 2011's Felix Bowl, A History
What I Remember NowThe Felixbowl was beginning to become a well known entity by this stage in the game and numbers were beginning to churn out. A massive amount of people were invited to the facebook event page and somewhere around 25 people were expected to attend, including Ian Leopold and Tom Lorenzi who would have made much anticipated debuts in the bowl. With an unprecedented 5 teams being drafted, captains also had to deal with question marks as to who would actually be showing up on time for the big game. Unfortunately, Ian Leopold, John Miller, Tom Lorenzi, and Francis Ferruzzi all either did not show up on time or played for just a few seconds in their teams quest for victory. In the early games of the double elimination round robin type playing of the tournament, some key moments occurred when Brandon Goodman made a diving catch into a fence, Andrew Gourlay scrambled for some big touchdown runs, and Jarrett Felix and Ed Brown went 2 on 4 and managed to win their potential elimination game. Admist all the confusion of who was coming when, two teams rose as clear cut contenders and both of the only teams without losses played each other in what became the championship game. McGrath, Silver, Fleischer, McCann and Park all teamed up to take down Gourlay, Maggio, Todd and others in a fiercely fought overtime thriller that ended dramatically in a tipped pass by Terry into the hands of Connor to win the game. After that the attempts to continue the tournament at Mondauk after the games were ended by a Lacrosse game were futile, and Silver’s squad was named champions.
We had 5 teams for the first (and possibly only) time in Felix Bowl history. That made things very difficult to plan games. Further complicating the matter was the fact that we were playing at Sparks Field and, before we could finish my full vision of the tournament, we got kicked off for a group of people who actually had the thing reserved. We tried to move to Mondauk to continue, but half of the people left so we scratched it and called it a day.
There was, however, a de-facto championship game with the two teams that were undefeated and atop the winners bracket. In that game, there was apparently a last second game winning touchdown pass that tipped off the hands of Connor McCann and into the hands of Terry Park for the score (throughout my various Facebook posts the order of this tip and catch flips). Alex Fleischer dubbed the play "The Miracle at Sparks".
I also remember that Brandon Goodman puked mid-game and then got back out there and scored a game winning touchdown in what I think was an elimination game for his team.
